One page that explains your child

For daycare, school, babysitters and the emergency department: the essentials about your child on a single sheet — before it is needed.

Imagine your child is with someone who does not know them well yet — and things are getting difficult. That person wants to help. They just do not know how.

That is what the profile is for: one page that says the most important things about your child, at the moment when you cannot be standing next to them. For daycare, for substitute staff, for the babysitter, for the grandparents — and for the emergency department, where nobody has time for long questions.

The profile helps you too: filling it in once puts words to a lot of things you have long known but never articulated.

What belongs in it

Four entries carry most of the weight. Everything else is addition.

1

What calms my child

The single most important line. An object, a sentence, a movement, a place — what reliably helps in difficult moments.

2

What overwhelms

Triggers and early warning signs. How others can tell it is becoming too much, before it tips over.

3

How my child communicates

Also without many words. What you note here prevents misunderstandings that would otherwise be read as refusal.

4

Strengths and favorite things

Deliberately not only problems. Whoever knows what brings your child joy finds it easier to connect.

How the profile works

One page that explains your child — for everyone who does not know them well yet.

What calms my child

The most important line in the whole profile — and how to phrase it precisely.

Triggers and early signs

How others notice it is becoming too much — in time, not in the middle of it.

Sensory profile

Sounds, light, touch, smells: what your child’s senses get too much or too little of.

In an emergency

What helps in that moment, what does not — and the key information for paramedics.

Ready-made template

The whole profile at a glance, to fill in and print.

The app is free; the first section of this module is free to read, the deeper content belongs to Mika+ (one-time €19.99, £19.99 in the UK).

A word on data protection

The profile contains sensitive information about your child. Share it deliberately — with people who need it, not with everyone who is curious. Daycare often needs a shorter version than the emergency department.

A diagnosis does not have to appear in it. What helps is the description of what your child needs — not the label.

Note on the legal information

This information has been compiled to the best of my knowledge, but it is not legal advice — laws, amounts and procedures change, and every case is different. What is binding is the applicable law and the decision of the responsible authority; I cannot accept liability. For important decisions, the free independent participation counseling (EUTB) or a social welfare association can help.

Would you like to talk about it?

If you like, we can go through the profile together — the wording for daycare and school is often the difficult part.
